Futuristic movies and the directors behind them have shown us their version of the time to come. While we can only wait and wonder about what our future holds for us, here’s a list of futuristic movies that can give you a glimpse of what our life could look like.
Set deep in the future, Jake Sully, a paraplegic marine decides to take his mission on a distant world in Pandora. The lush alien world of Pandora where the local Na’vi live is rich in a precious material. Jake uses an ‘Avatar’ to phase into a Na’vi’s body and infiltrate the locals. That’s where Jake learns about the native tribe and quickly falls in love with the beautiful alien Neytiri. The military continues ahead with their ruthless extermination tactics, which forces Jake to take a stand and fight back in an epic battle for the fate of Pandora. The movie is truly a visual treat. Phasing into an alien’s body does sound fascinating. Hope the future is just as interesting as this movie.
A seemingly indestructible android is sent from 2029 to 1984 to assassinate a waitress, whose unborn son will lead humanity in a war against the machines, while a soldier from that war is sent to protect her at all costs. Released in the year 1984, the movie was way ahead of its time. We are in 2018 now and the rise in autonomous technology and robots does suggest that the director had a really forward thinking. It’s not long till we embed robotic technology into humans and finally see the rise of cyborgs!
The movie says, in the future, our planet will be inhabitable because we ‘d eventually run out of space to put waste in. Even waste-collecting robots won’t be able to protect planet Earth. Hence, the world finds itself a spaceship loaded with technology and totally controlled by robots. That’s where Wall-E, a waste-collecting robot inadvertently embarks on a space journey that will ultimately decide the fate of mankind. So, will our future leave the Earth uninhabitable and would we have to find solace elsewhere? Here’s how you can lend your hand to saving planet earth from destruction.
4) The Martian:
Speaking about finding solace elsewhere, an astronaut finds himself all alone on the planet Mars as a tragedy strikes during their mission. The movie is all about how the astronaut survives on the lonely planet and survives the whole ordeal and lives to tell the tale, on earth! Manned Mars Missions aren’t really far away into the future though. CEO of Tesla Motors, Elon Musk is striving hard to colonise planet Mars with its revolutionary SpaceX technology. The struggle to make life on Mars sustainable is still on, but it isn’t really far away.
5) Die Hard 4.0:
As technology canvases us from all sides, John McClane and a young hacker join forces to take down master cyber-terrorist Thomas Gabriel. This cyber-terrorist uses a laptop and the internet to literally bring the whole of USA into a stand-still. And McClane and the young hacker try with all their might to stop this cyber-terrorism. The movie is action-packed with crazy scenes that’d keep the audience on their toes. We are already victims of Cyber-terrorism – from ransomware to attacking power grids and more. We need more John McClane’s to stop such forces and more of those “car taking down the helicopter” scenes!
So, here’s a list of movies to binge watch during the vacations. A glimpse into the future – currently viewed from a director’s perspective!
